1717-1791. Född 31 oktober 1717. Död 25 oktober 1791.
Inskrevs vid Uppsala Universitet 1729. Han hamnade 1734 i Lantmäteriets tjänst där han 1747 utnämndes till förste lantmätare. Han var Lantmäteriets främste och flitigaste kartograf. Upprättade flera provinskartor och kartor över Vättern och Vänern. Han invaldes i KVA 1769.
Även författare till kartografiska skrifter och beskrivningar. Dessa läckra små skifter i liten 8:o är sällsynta och eftersökta.

Fransk ingenjör. Efter en tids verksamhet som militäringenjör hos kungen av Portugal återvände han till Paris och blev matematiklärare åt Ludvig XIV:s pager. 1671 utgav han ett militärtekniskt verk, 'Les travaux de Mars, ou l'art de la guerre'. Ett geografiskt verk i 5 band med en mängd kartor och planer, 'Description de l'Univers, contenant les différens systemes du Monde' utkom 1683 och i nyutgåva 1685. 1702 lät han utge 'La Géométrie pratique' i 4 band.

His Description de L'Universe contains a wide variety of information, including star maps, maps of the ancient and modern world, and a synopsis of the customs, religion and government of the many nations included in his text. It has been suggested that his background as a teacher led to his being concerned with entertaining his readers. Direktör för lantmäteriet, tog initiativet till den första svenska Generalkartan.
At the age of 28, appointed director (later director-general) for the National Land Survey. Offices were a room at the royal palace, 'but in autumn, winter and spring, maps never could be stored there because of the moisture, snow and rain that drift in through the leaky walls'. Wrote poetry with same success - 200 years later the works were deemed 'currently unpalatable'. In the early 1690s worked on Stockholm's Outer archipelago, until then poorly represented on charts. For security reasons, the lise of maps was restricted. His maps first round real use a hundred years later as underpinning for Sweden's Marine Atlas (Sveriges Sjöatlas).
