Engelsk kopparstickare. Inga övriga upplysningar hittade, om han inte är identisk med den J. Cross som nämns av Thieme-Becker. Från dennes hand kom särskilt heraldiska exlibris och porträtt (ca. 1820-60).

Abraham Goos was a noted engraver in Amsterdam who prepared plates for many maps published in well-known atlases of his time including Speed's A Prospect ofthe Most Famous Parts of the World (1627) and the 1632 edition of Speed's Atlas. He was related to the Hondius family by whom he was also employed as an engraver. In 1616 he issued a book of maps, the Nieuw Nederlandtsh Caertboeck (4to) which was re-issued in 1619 and 1625.
His son, Pieter, continued and extended his father's business and became one of the group of well-known engravers of sea charts active in Amsterdam in the middle years of the seventeenth century. In common with Colom, Doncker and Jacobsz he published a pilot guide, the Zee-Spiegel, basing it on plates obtained from Jacobsz. This went through many editions in different languages under the startling titles so popular at the time. Holländsk sjöfarare som ledde flera expeditioner för att finna en nordlig sjöförbindelse med Kina (Nordostpassagen). Sommaren 1594 nådde han Novaja Semljas västkust och följde denna norrut till 77:e breddgraden. Ett annat skepp i expeditionen seglade genom Vaigatsjstredet och hittade isfritt hav vidare längs nordkusten av Asien. En ny expedition året efter hittade emellertid denna passage blockerad av packis och tvingades vända. På sin tredje expedition 1596 hittade Barents Björnön och upptäckte Svalbard som inte tidigare varit känt sedan vikingarnas resor dit. Från Svalbard fortsatte han till Novaja Semlja och seglade runt nordspetsen av ön, där expeditionen blev den första att övervintra i Norra Ishavet. Då skeppen följande vår inte kom loss från isen tvingades manskapet överge dessa och färdas vidare i öppna båtar. Efter stora ansträngningar nådde de flesta fram till Lappland där de blev räddade, men Barents själv och flera andra omkom under resan.
