This is the forme of a Mappe sent 1527. from Siuill in Spayne by maister Robert Thorne marchaunt, to Doctor Ley Embassadour for king Henry the 8. to Charles the Emperour. Ant although the same in this present time may seeme rude, yet I haue set it out, because his booke coulde not well be understood without the same. The imperfection of which Mappe may be excused by that tyme: the knowledge of Cosmographie not then beyng entred among our Marchauntes, as nowe it is.

Vel incipiunt a posteriore lecundum Portugalenses versus occidentem, & terminantur in gradus 160. secundum Hispanos, vel 180. secundum Portugalenses. Et sic, licet insulae Tharsis & Ophir videntur attingere. Portugalenses, tamen insule Capo verde dictae, quae intra supradicta signa cadunt, vidërur omittere. Et sic dum insulas Capoverde retinere volunt Portugalenses, isles Tharsis & Ossir non possunt attingere.'

Köpmannen Robert Thorne var en köpman från Bristol som gjorde sig en förmögenhet på handeln med ostindien. Denna karta är extra rolig då upphovsmannen inte är kartograf utan gjorde kartan som illustration till sin bok.
